PROBLEM:
A significant spill of oil and acid occurred in a water reclamation room during the relocation of a 55-gallon drum. Due to the confined space, the 30-gallon mixture required urgent acid and oil spill cleanup.
SOLUTION:
HazChem deployed an Emergency Rapid Response Team in less than 60 minutes. The situation was analyzed, a remediation plan was formed, and the following actions were taken:
PH paper was utilized to test the affected area, and sodium bicarbonate was used to neutralize the acid in the spill.
Oil dry was deployed into the affected area for absorption of the spilled oil.
The crew used absorbent pads to clean the oil residue in hard-to-reach areas of the room.
The impacted oil dry was scooped up and placed into one 55-gallon open top poly drum.
The spill generated one 55-gallon drum to be disposed of as waste. It was properly sealed, labelled, and kept on-site.
Final photos were taken and the job was approved for successful remediation of the spill.
