Paint Spill – Emergency Response for Fork Lift Accident

We recently responded to a call regarding a spill involving two 55-gallon drums of non-hazardous paint that were punctured by a forklift during shipping. Approximately 35 gallons of paint had leaked onto the dock floor.

Our crew put on their Personal Protective Equipment & deployed bags of oil dry into the standing product waste liquid. They worked it in, for absorption and containment.
The HazChem technicians staged one 95-gallon OTP drum and one 85-gallon OTS drum with a poly liner inside of them.
Our crew unwrapped the pallet to work with the fiber drums, placing one in each of them. The one fiber drum being placed into the 85-gallon OTS drum needed to be cut to fit inside, so they used a Sawzall to cut the damaged fiber drum.
Afterwards, the HazChem team removed the cardboard boxes from the first pallet, restacked them onto a new pallet, and then rewrapped them with shrink wrap as good product.
The impacted oil dry was scooped up and put into a separate poly lined 55-gallon OTS drum, to be disposed of as waste.
The crew completed the remediation of this spill, so they doffed their PPE and placed it in a designated drum, for waste.
This spill generated two waste drums and two overpack drums; sealed, properly labeled, and kept on-site. Final photos were taken and remediation of the spill was approved.
