PROBLEM:
HazChem received a call to request remediation of a forklift accident spill clean up in a warehouse.
SOLUTION:
HazChem deployed an Emergency Response Team within 60 minutes of receiving the call.
Upon arrival at the scene, the crew discovered that a warehouse forklift had accidentally punctured a 320-gallon tote filled with acid. The crew assessed the situation, held a health and safety meeting, quickly contained the spill, and remediated the impacted area of the forklift accident spill clean up.
The crew donned level “C” Poly coated Tyvek suits with air purifying respirators, acid boots, and chem master gloves. To contain the spread of the spill, Oil Dri and vermiculite were placed around the impacted area.
A mixture of sodium bicarbonate and water was used to neutralize the spilled acidic liquid. The trailer was offloaded, and the contaminated freight was wiped down with the sodium bicarbonate solution.
While moving the freight, the crew used universal absorbent pads to clean the contaminated totes.
They transferred the remaining contents of the broken tote into two 55-gallon open top plastic drums as salvable product.
Contaminated PPE was placed into a separate 55-gallon drum to be disposed of properly.
The spill generated ten waste drums; they were properly labeled, sealed, and kept on-site. Final photos were taken, and the remediation of the spill was approved of the forklift accident spill clean up.
