PROBLEM:
HazChem was notified of a spill involving a non-hazardous liquid that occurred when a 275 gallon container tipped over during transport within the warehouse.
SOLUTION:
HazChem’s Emergency Rapid Response Team (ERRT) deployed in less than 60 minutes after receiving the call. Once on-scene, the damaged 275-gallon poly tote contents were transferred to a new IBC tote. Oil-Dry and pads absorbed and contained the waste, and we successfully remediated the spill safely.
Upon arrival, the crew located the origin of the spill and found one damaged 275-gallon poly tote that was tipped over, still leaking onto the dock floor.
A new 330-gallon IBC tote was brought to the site to conduct a tote transfer of the remaining product. They began by using a forklift to raise the damaged tote above the new IBC.
While the tote was being drained, the crew deployed 33 bags of Oil-Dry to absorb and contain the standing waste, thoroughly working it in to ensure effective absorption.
The crew staged six 55-gallon OTS drums with poly liners and scooped up the impacted Oil-Dry and placed it in the designated drums.
The new IBC tote and drums of Oil-Dry, PPE, and pads were properly labelled, sealed, and kept on-site.
The crew loaded the damaged tote onto HazChem’s ERR truck to be recycled. Final photos were taken and remediation of the spill was approved.
